Young children are facing a lot these days. The unpredictability and isolation of COVID-19 can bring feelings of loneliness and confusion, and a lack of age-appropriate learning opportunities.
Luckily, there’s help on Sesame Street… and Edward Street.
“Little Children, Big Challenges” – A Sesame Street Production
Leave it to Sesame Street to deliver in the clutch.
In Little Children, Big Challenges, now available on YouTube, Grover and the gang tackle a variety of topics that face children in the areas of health and well-being, school readiness, and emotional well-being.
Produced by Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC) and the Sesame Workshop, with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the video helps children cope with uncertainty by building resilience. The special also addresses common stressors families were already dealing with that the pandemic has intensified, such as parental addiction and trauma.
Little Children, Big Challenges is just one example of what SSIC offers. At sesamestreetincommunities.org, you’ll find dozens of fun and learning opportunities across health, developmental milestones and resilience as well as family challenges such as homelessness. If it happens to young children, chances are Sesame Street addresses it.
At Edward Street, Every Day is a Day of Play
Learning can be fun, and fun can be a healthy learning experience.
At WorcesterDayofPlay.org Edward Street and community partners provide free activities kids and caregivers can enjoy at home. Songs, stories, games—and even Zumba for kids—are just a few of the available resources. Curated by Edward Street, each activity is designed to encourage learning as well as social, physical and emotional wellness.
Due to popular demand, Edward Street is in the planning stages of transforming worcesterdayofplay.org into a year-round resource with seasonal activities.
